Lightning Hold off Steelheads Run

GARY, Ind. – The Gary Steelheads fought back from an 82-51 halftime deficit, but came up short, 133-132 Saturday night to the Rockford Lightning at the Genesis Convention Center.

Rockford (16-7) earned five quarter points, while the Steelheads (12-11) picked up two.

The Lightning made four free throws in the final 12 seconds to put the game away. Artie Griffin hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The Steelheads' gave up a first half season-high 82 points, but scored 81 points in the second half. That tied a season-high for second half points set at Rockford on Dec. 28.

The Steelheads' Darrin Hancock led all scorers with a season-high 30 points and had 10 rebounds. Bryant Notree scored 29 points. Oliver Miller had a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Six Steelheads scored in double figures.

Ronnie Fields and Albert White led Rockford with 28 points each. Joe Crisipin scored 23 points while Carson Cunningham added 20.
