London Lightning News Release
(ST. CATHARINE'S, Ontario) - Friday night at the Meridian Centre, the London Lightning defeated the Niagara River Lions 109-103.
The win pushes the Lightning's win streak to seven games. London's record is now 10-2, the best in the Central Division.
Nick Okorie led all scorers with 26 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field.
Akeem Wright was also pivotal, adding 23 points while hitting 8-of-15 field goals.
The Lightning led throughout most of the first half, but a strong finish by the River Lions took them into halftime with a three point lead.
Posthumus had a much more successful night, achieving a double-double
(13 points, 14 rebounds). Stephen Maxwell recorded another double-double as well, scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds.
London pulled away with minutes to go in the final frame as the River Lions put the Lightning into the bonus.
The game had a back and forth feel to it throughout, and coach Kyle Julius made a note of that following the game.
"It was really hard to get a flow tonight. There were so many fouls called throughout the game that it stopped the game. We could never really get going. We didn't play amazing."
Julius noted that in the fourth quarter, it was Posthumus who shone.
"If you've watched the last few games, Chad has had great fourth quarters. He was really a difference maker tonight."
The Lightning return home Saturday to get their first taste of the Atlantic Division when they take on the Moncton Miracles. Fans can also catch the annual 'Battle of the Badges' game Saturday where Team Police will take on Team Fire. The Battle of the Badges starts at 4:00 p.m. and spectators will need to show their Lightning ticket to enter.
On Sunday, London hosts the Island Storm in a matinee game at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets are still available for both through the Budweiser Gardens box office.
