Lightning Come Back in Game 3 of NBL Finals

May 10, 2018 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) - London Lightning News Release

(LONDON, ON) - The London Lightning are back on the right track after a 110-100 win over the Halifax Hurricanes in the 2018 NBL Finals. The Hurricanes lead the best-of-seven series two games to one.

Head coach, Keith Vassell, believes his team got it done tonight thanks to the effort and energy given at both ends of the floor. "We were able to sustain the defensive intensity. When we got stops on defense that allowed us to run. We are gritty, the guys have a strong desire to win.

They are willing to get on the floor, I mean look at some of the 50-50 balls tonight, Julian - how did he slide far enough to get his hands on that ball, Doug had a huge steal stopping a play that could have been a momentum swing for them... there were significant plays tonight where we had to dig down, we knew something had to happen and it's not necessarily about the basket but it's about making the play."

Garrett Williamson lead all scorers with 27 points along with 10 assists and six rebounds. He was all over the court, hitting key shots and making big plays on defence. "We knew that we were getting stops we just had to be better on offence. I just tried to come out and set the pace offensively and share the ball, make plays. It is do or die right now, it's finals so every possession is playing like its our last. It was a gutty win and we gotta get another one on Saturday."

Julian Boyd was big for the Bolts pulling down 15 rebounds along with 17 points and five assists.

Kirk Williams Jr. stepped into a starting role in-place of an injured Ryan Anderson and brought some much-needed energy, chipping in for 18 points. Doug Herring Jr. and Mo Bolden each added double-doubles, with 13 points and ten assists and 14 points and ten rebounds respectively.

Game four of the NBL Finals goes this Saturday, May 12 at 7:00 P.M. at Budweiser Gardens in London. Game five of the series is now necessary, and will be played at Budweiser Gardens, Monday, May 14 at 7:00 P.M. Tickets are available at the Budweiser Gardens Box office or www.lightningbasketball.ca.
