Louisville Lightning News Release

Earlier this week, Louisville Lightning coach Ted Nichols said if the team could get a win against Detroit, there would be no looking back. It's time to look ahead to Cincinnati now, because the Lightning went to Detroit Saturday night and pulled out a 10-4 hard-fought victory.

The Lightning were able to avenge a loss to the Waza in week two with a huge road win Saturday at Detroit. Lightning coach Ted Nichols said his team was motivated and ready after this week's practice sessions, and they showed it early against the powerful Waza.

Louisville jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead at Taylor Sportsplex behind early goals from midfielder Chad Hagerty and followed up by a goal from defender Grant Wheeler. It didn't take long for the Waza to answer, however. Just five minutes into the first quarter, the hosts were able to equalize and make it a 2-2 match.

With six minutes left in the first period, Louisville's John Michael Hayden sent an impressive pass to Darren Yeagle, who then crossed to David Horne on the back post for a goal, making it 3-2. Hayden would hit the back of the net himself to make it 4-2, then Grant Wheeler set up Chad Hagerty for his second goal of the game to put the Lightning up 5-2. Both teams would add a goal before the break, making it 6-3 at halftime.

Detroit came out firing in the second half, and just three minutes after the break, the Waza would strike to make it a 6-4 game. It would be all Detroit could muster, however, and the Waza wouldn't find the back of the net for the rest of the game. Instead, Louisville cemented its lead by exploding for four more goals in the fourth quarter to pull out a 10-4 win in Detroit. Lightning midfielder Chad Hagerty led all scorers with four goals.

The Lightning pick up their second league win of the season, moving them into a tie for third place in the division with the Ohio Vortex. They now return home to take on the Cincinnati Kings Saturday, January 22nd at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex at 8 PM.
