STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league announced rookie OL/DL Will Welcher has been assigned by the af2 league office and DB Domingo Holmes has been activated off the injured reserve list.
The Lightning also announced the following roster transactions:
ÂÅ Warren Tauanuu (WR/LB) placed on re-assignment
Holmes, a rookie product of San Jose State Univeristy (NCAA), is slated to make his professional football debut after splliting his college career with the Spartans and City College of San Francisco. The 5-foot-8, 185-pounder appeared in 13 games for San Jose State as a 2006 senior, posting 13 tackles, one sack and one pass breakup while helping guide the Spartans to a New Mexico Bowl championship
Welcher joins the Lightning after a brief hiatus from the game and returns to the local Northern California area after splitting four years of his college football career at the University of Mary (N.D.), Morningside College (Kan.) and American River (Sacramento, Calif.) Junior College.
The Lightning return to play the final road game of the regular season this Saturday - a Week 15 matchup against the Central Valley Coyotes, beginning at 7:00 from Selland Arena on Saturday, July 5 The game be heard on radio (potentially joined in progress) at 1420-AM KSTN and viewed online, free-of-charge, through www.stocktonlightning.com (courtesy of NifTy Online TV).
