PREMIER PARTNER: The Liberty and WNBA announced Wednesday a new multi-year premier partnership for the team with Foxwoods Resort Casino, North America's largest casino ... As part of the partnership Foxwoods Resort Casino will receive prominent logo placement on the Liberty jersey, a first-of-its-kind partnership for an Eastern Conference WNBA team and the first resort casino to have branding on the front of a professional sports team jersey.
BACK TO WHERE YOU ONCE BELONGED: Taj McWilliams-Franklin spent her first eight seasons (four in ORL, four in CT) in the league as a member of the Miracle/Sun ... The 6-2 center compiled a 12.4 ppg and 7.7 rpg average during that span ... McWilliams-Franklin is ranked in 25 statistical categories on the Miracle/Sun's all-time leader-board, including games played (2nd, 278), rebounds (1st, 1,814), blocked shots (1st, 267) and points ( 2nd, 3,019)
HARD DAY'S DAY: When the Liberty and Sun met in the pre-season on May 11 at MSG, the matinee game went into three-overtime periods and tied for the longest exhibition game in WNBA history ... The last time the league saw a triple OT game in the pre-season was on May 27, 2000 between Phoenix and Detroit ... It was also the third consecutive over-time game between New York and Connecticut, as the final two regular season match-ups in 2009 resulted in extra play.
FACING THE SUN: The season series has started in Connecticut (formerly Orlando) four times in the all-time history between the Liberty and Sun (formerly Miracle) ... The Libs are 5-6 all-time in its first match-up of the season against its Conference rival and 1-3 when the series begins on the road... The last time New York got a 1-0 series lead over Connecticut came on June 20, 2007 at Mohegan Sun ... That season series resulted in a tie, as both teams scored two victories apiece.
LITTLE LIB: At 5-5, Leilani Mitchell is the shortest player on the Liberty's all-time roster ... There have been just four other players in the franchise's history listed at 5-6 ... Mitchell handed out a career-high nine assists in her Opening Day debut on May 16 versus Chicago ... Her start tonight ties a career-high (5) previously achieved in her rookie season in 2008.
