Philadelphia Liberty Belles News Release

Lancaster, PA - January 21, 2003 - On Saturday, January 18, 2003, The Philadelphia Liberty Belles were welcomed by about 50 girls and boys ranging from ages 6-16. The children played a football toss and trivia game to win prizes from the Liberty Belles.

When one little 9 year old girl was asked what she thinks about women playing football, she replied, "It's like when women couldn't vote, and now they can." Several girls were very excited and stated they "want to grow up and become a pro football player."

The girls were anxious to try on the shoulder pads and football helmets. The weight and obvious oversized equipment didn't deter them from lining up with big smiles and wide eyes. A few of the boys play peewee football and they didn't see the need to try the equipment on. But, when it came time to throw the football, they were just as wide-eyed and scrambled to get in front of the line to show the Liberty Belles how well they can throw.

The staff and children of the Lancaster Boys and Girls Club look forward to planning a bus trip to see the Liberty Belles in action at one of their games.
