Kentucky Horsemen News Release
Lexington, KY - The Lexington Horsemen return to the United Indoor Football championship. They won the Eastern Conference championship 67-49 over the Bloomington Extreme thanks to seven Eddie Eviston touchdown passes and a defense that held Bloomington scoreless for a 22-minute span. Chad Spencer caught four of Eviston's touchdown tosses, but the most celebrated touchdown in the game was when Eviston hit Rayshawn Askew with 1:12 remaining in the game. It was touchdown number 209 for Askew, breaking Jerry Rice's record for the most touchdowns in professional football.
Askew rushed for 57 yards on 12 carries, but it was his lone reception for eight yards that set the record. Besides Spencer and Askew, Eviston also found Harry Lewis and John Cooper in the end zone for a touchdown each. Eviston completed 18-of-25 passes for 234 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. He also rushed for a touchdown.
Special teams also played well for Lexington. With time running out in the first half and leading 20-17, the Horsemen blocked a Peter Christofilakos 23-yard field goal attempt and Leonard Burress returned it 28 yards for a touchdown. Collin Barber's kick was good to put Lexington up 27-17 at halftime.
Bloomington quarterback Dusty Burk was 27-of-44 for 279 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. His favorite target was Glenn Johnson who finished with 11 catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.
Lexington will face the Western Conference champion in United Bowl III next weekend at either Sioux Falls, SD or Billings, MT. Sioux Falls hosts Billings Sunday with the winner advancing to face the Horsemen.
