Lewy's Legion At The Santa Parade

December 3, 2010 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

On Monday November 29th a small group of people from Lewy's Legion, Kollide and Lewy took part in the annual Santa parade. We braved the cold and evening traffic to help with light of the trees and representing the Lewiston MAINEiacs organization. Unfortunately the team was in Cape Breton. Hopefully next year the boys will be in town and have as much fun as we did

We met at the Great Falls Plaza where we all got in a hay wagon and lined up with the other participants in the parade. As we waited along Court street, we warmed ourselves up by moving around, ring our cow bells and blow the air horns. Some of the people in traffic got into what we were doing and honked back. We even notice someone across the street at the YMCA working out and had a #4 MAINEiacs t-shirt on.

The parade started and we made our way from Court Street to Festival Plaza, where they were lighting the Auburn tree and meeting up with Santa and Mrs. Claus who were already there.Once Santa and Mrs Claus were in their sleigh it was off to Lewiston to Dufresne Plaza and the lighting of the tree and the Menorah lights.

As we made our way across the bridge from Auburn to Lewiston we waved to the people along the streets and sang the MAINEiacs song. A few rounds Of "Ole Ole " were sung as well. JP Wallace let everyone know when the next home game was (Dec 5th) and told all the kids he saw to tell their parents that they want to go to a game.

We didn't have any lights or decorations on our float(next year, look out!!!) but we had the loudest! After we arrived at Dufresne Plaza and watched the lighting of the tree everyone walked back across the bridge back to Great Falls Plaza. As they did, they were greatly surprised by the honks and waves they were receiving from passing cars who were showing their support for the team. It was a wonderful way to end they evening.

LEWY'S LEGION BOOSTER CLUB UPDATE

-by Gail Tarr

The Lewy's Legion Boosters have been gearing up for the holiday season and are excited to talk about some up coming events!

We have worked with St. Mary's Health System on two big projects. First, on December 10th, there will be a Pack the Rink Pack the Pantry night at the Colisee. We are asking that MAINEiacs fans bring a non perishable item to donate to the St. Mary's food pantry. We hope you also bring along your friends and family so we can pack the rink as well. After the 2800+ crowd at a recent game, the Boosters would love to see that kind of excitement happening more and more. The MAINEiacs are on a roll and they are heading right towards the President's Cup, full steam ahead!

On December 14, we are also partnering up with St. Mary's and the American Red Cross to host a blood drive over at the hospital. This is a great cause, blood is always in demand and it is a simple and painless was to save a life. And, just for donating a pint, you will receive a voucher to the December 15th game against the PEI Rocket. What a great gift, fans giving the gift of life to a person and the MAINEiacs gifting you a ticket to their game. Now, THAT'S a partnership.

We are always looking for folks interested in helping out with Boosters activities, if you are interested in becoming a member, contact us on our Facebook group page or email us at maineiacspr@gmail.com.
