Lewiston Returns the Favor. Defeat Shawinigan 4-1!

Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release


Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs defeated the Shawinigan Cataractes 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 2,394 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

In the first period, MAINEiacs forward Marc Bourgeois waisted no time in getting the home side of the board lit up. Bourgeois netted the first goal of the night only 1:24 in to the game assisted by Tom Michalik and Etienne Brodeur. Later in the first Billy Lacasse teamed up with Michael Ward to score his second of the year. A little over a minute later Shawinigan's Dave Labrecque took the power play opportunity to score on MAINEiacs rookie goaltender Philip Wright to put the Cataractes within one.

In the second it was all MAINEiacs. Michael Chaput, brother of former MAINEiac Stefan Chaput, scored his first goal in a MAINEiacs uniform assisted by Sean Stagles. A few minutes later Matt Bourdeau lit the lamp with a little help from assistant captain Patrick Cusack and Etienne Brodeur for the final goal of the night.

MAINEiacs goaltender Philip Wright picked up his first win in the QMJHL by stopping 20 of 21 shots in a valiant first time effort. On the other end of the ice, Cataractes goalie Erwin Bosum picked up the loss for the visiting club.

The MAINEiacs are back on home ice next Friday for a match up with the Moncton Wildcats. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
