MAINEiacs/JUNIOR GAME DAY PRIMER

Welcome to Game Four

Tonight is game four of the best-of-seven second round series between the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Montreal Junior. After the two sides split a pair of games at Verdun Auditorium over the weekend, the MAINEiacs and Junior hit the ice at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee last night, with Lewiston taking a 2-1 decision for a 2-1 series lead. Following tonight's contest, the two teams will head back to Montreal for game five on Friday night.

Defenses Step Up

After seeing the two teams combine for 19 goals and 152 shots in two games at Verdun Auditorium, Lewiston and Montreal both went with more of a defensive approach in game three at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. The two teams combined for just three goals on 48 shots, with the MAINEiacs scoring twice on 19 shots, and the Junior scoring once on 29 shots. Tuesday's first period was the first scoreless period in the series.

Brodeur is Clutch

For the second series in a row, Etienne Brodeur picked a perfect time to get on the scoreboard. After netting six game winning goals during the regular season, Brodeur picked up his second winning goal of the playoffs. The 19-year old recorded the overtime winner in game four against Moncton in round one, before last night's winning goal with five seconds left in regulation of game three against Montreal.

They're Streaking

Philippe Lefebvre, Olivier Dame-Malka, and Kirill Kabanov all extended their active point streaks last night in game three. Lefebvre assisted on Montreal's lone tally, giving him at least one point in all seven of his team's playoff games. For Lewiston, Kabanov picked up two assists, while Dame-Malka registered one, as they both had at least one point for the fifth game in a row. Dame-Malka has at least one point in seven of the MAINEiacs' eight playoff games, leading the way with 13 points overall.

First Time in a While

Last night's win by the MAINEiacs was their first against Montreal at home since January 24, 2009, when Lewiston picked up a 3-2 shootout victory in their 200th home game in franchise history. It was also the MAINEiacs' first ever regulation win at home against the Junior since the team moved from St. John's to start the 2008-09 campaign.

No Sweeps in this Round

The first round of the QMJHL playoffs saw five series end in sweeps and three series end in five games. In round two, there will not be any sweeps, as all eight clubs currently in the postseason have each won a game in the round. Last night, Saint John was the lone team to win on the road, taking a 2-1 series lead against Victoriaville with a 6-3 win at Colisee Desjardins. Meanwhile, Shawinigan and Gatineau got on the board with 6-3 and 4-1 home wins over Quebec and Drummondville respectively.
