League meeting in Chicago a success
June 12, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. The Marriott Suites Hotel near O'Hare Airport in Chicago was the site of the ABA League Owners Meeting on Saturday. Representatives from nearly 60 ABA teams met to discuss the upcoming season and to develop a strategic plan for the future. According to Dick Tinkham, ABA co-founder, "This was one of the best basketball meetings I've ever attended and that includes all of the meetings of the original ABA. There was more excitement and more electricity in that room - and more constructive ideas for how to make the ABA even better than it is than I could have imagined. The owners, GMs, and invited guests were amazing. The future of ABA fan-friendly, exciting, action-packed professional basketball and entertainment at affordable prices is very bright."
Among the topics discussed were team buses and leasing, entertainment, insurance, divisions, media guide, web site, television, Team Owners Advisory Council, strategic partners, Canada Basketball, television, expansion and league operations, sponsorships, officiating, ABA Magazine, and more.
Joe Newman, ABA CEO, added, "If there was one thing in that room Saturday, it was passion - a genuine commitment by everyone there to make the ABA the best professional sports league in the world - and the recognition that it all starts at the local level - providing a quality product and good value - and being an important part of the community. Our ownership group is extraordinary. The best is yet to come."
