ABA plans Boston expansion team

June 12, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Boston, MA. Thomas Watson, a spokesperson for SconsetSports LLC, today announced that the ABA expansion team for the city of Boston is being planned for the 2007-2008 season. A previous team called the Boston Frenzy played in the previous two years in the ABA but recently announced a move to Cape Cod, a peninsula on the southeastern coast of Massachusetts. The Boston Frenzy was founded by current LV Venom GM and co-owner Dan Savage. The first year the team was coached by Joe "Jellybean" Bryant, father of LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant.

"We are in discussions with several potential partners and will begin a venue search this summer. It is our preference to be in or close to the city of Boston as we feel that the City has an incredible sports tradition already and the citizenry are ready to support this on a local level," explained Watson. "We also like the potential neighborly rivalries that we see forming versus Cape Cod, Vermont and Providence; the entire region will be primed for ABA basketball."

The group is seeking to meet and discuss with Boston area basketball aficionados, business people and citizens to get ideas about the direction of the team, ownership, venues and more.
