Saint John Riptide News Release

The Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry outlasted the Manchester Millrats 109-98 today in a matinee match up.

After a grueling 23 hour road trip from Puerto Rico on Saturday, the Millrats finally arrived in Lawton, Oklahoma at 4:00 am, determined to take it to the former two-time CBA champions.

Manchester came out of the gate as the aggressors, getting solid first quarter performances from Anthony Anderson and Stanley Ocitti. The Millrats led 26-24 after the first quarter.

With the score 33-27, Manchester, the Cavs suddenly came alive, and rattled off a 14-0 run to grab a 41-33 led before an Anthony Anderson three pointer stopped the run. Anderson hit another three pointer at the halftime buzzer to close the gap to 49-43 at the intermission.

In the second half, Manchester kept within shooting distance throughout. The Cavalry lead hovered between 5 and 10 points throughout the second half. Tired legs from the visitors left shooters for Lawton-Fort Sill open, and the Cavalry prevailed 109-98 in the end.

"We competed against a very good Oklahoma team, they've played together for a couple years and it shows," explained Millrats Head Coach Heath Teixeira. "I think we grew as a team on this road trip, and it taught up what level we need to execute at each night to be successful."

Anthony Anderson led Manchester with 23 points, Stanley Ocitti scored 21 and hauled down 9 rebounds, Alexus Foyle contributed 18 points off the bench, and Dwight Brewington chipped in 14. Tim Ellis scored 23 for Lawton-Fort Sill.

With the loss Manchester drops to 1-2 on the season, while the Cavalry move to 3-0.

Manchester will be looking to bounce back during a double-header homestand next weekend on January 16th and 17th, as they face the Rochester RazorSharks and the Quebec Kebs. Both games are a 7:00pm with tickets available online, and at the door.
