Sioux Falls Storm News Release

The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) is pleased to announce the return and signing of former Sioux Falls Storm defensive lineman, Mike Lawson. Lawson (6’3” 280 lbs.) joined the Storm at the end of the 2004 season to help the Storm in their Championship run before returning this 2005 season to the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League (AFL). Mike is a graduate from the University of Miami where he played football from 1994-98. Lawson has been all over the professional football field during his career, playing in the Canadian Football League for a year for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and in the AFL for five seasons. While playing in the AFL, Lawson has been a part of the Florida Bobcats, Georgia Force, Arizona Rattlers (where he played in Arena Bowl XVII), the Dallas Desporados, and currently with the Tampa Bay Storm. Lawson joined the Storm for the last 3 regular season games and all 3 playoff games in the 2004 season. In that time, Mike recorded 17 total tackles, 3 quarterback sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble and 2 pass break-ups. Lawson was placed on the Storm’s 30-man final frozen roster back on July 14, 2005 and he will look to make an immediate impact on the defensive line for the Storm.

"Mike is a huge presence for our team, both physically and in the locker room. He's that vocal leader that our defense needs and with Nate Fluit's playing status unknown with that injured ankle, this is a huge pick up for us. Mike really enjoyed his time with our organization last season and the unbelievable support we receive here in Sioux Falls, so he agreed to come back and help us in this year's Championship run," says General Manager, Colin Steen.

The Storm will travel to Omaha this Saturday, July 30, for the 1st round of the UIF playoff's and a match-up with the Beef. This will be the 4th meeting of the season between the two teams with Omaha taking 2 of the 3 games. The one win for the Storm over the Beef was in Omaha, Nebraska back on April 23. The Storm has put together another "Storm Chaser Bus Trip" to Omaha this weekend. For a mere $30, individuals will receive the bus ride, a ticket to the game right behind the Storm's bench, a playoff tee-shirt, beads and a Storm blow horn. Call the Storm's front office at 605-332-4225 to sign up for the trip. For all other Storm information visit the team's website at www.siouxfallsstorm.com.
