Laredo Law News Release
LAREDO, Texas â Sunday afternoon well over a thousand fans visited the Laredo Entertainment Center to get their first glimpse of the new Laredo Law arenafootball2 team. The players mingled with fans and passed out autographs along with t-shirts and mini footballs. The Laredo Law 2004 af2 season begins this Saturday night in Rio Grande Valley against the Dorados. Laredo's home opener is set for April 23rd at the LEC. Call the Law ticket office at (956)-726-GAME (4263) or log onto www.laredolaw.com.
The band âLa Clave' entertained fans during breaks as arenafootball2 and the Law debuted. Law head coach Scot Maynard had the newest Laredo professional team put on a display on the field demonstrating various aspects of the game and what each player does.
"This is a fast, explosive hard hitting game," said Maynard. "It's high scoring and a thrill a minute for the fans. Laredo is going to love arenafootball2."
More than a hundred season tickets were sold on Sunday, bringing the Law's current total to more than 1500.
"We have direct mailers talking about Law season tickets going out this week to the entire Laredo area," said Law Director of Ticket Sales Kit Preston. "With our home opener just under a month away this is when we are beginning our big season ticket push."
The Law Fan Fest kicked off with a flag football game between members of the media. The Pro8news team defeated the team from Amigo Broadcasting.
"There is no doubt that we were robbed in the game," said Amigo Broadcasting team captain Ruben Villarreal. "Seriously, it sure gives the members of the media a realistic perspective on what it takes to play arenafootball2 and just how tough this game is."
Villarreal will call the radio play-by-play as the Law debuts this Saturday night in Rio Grande Valley, due to a conflict with Game Two of the Southern Conference Finals for the Bucks. The Laredo Law game will be heard on 106.1 FM RadioKnext.
In addition to introducing the fans to the Law, it gave the Law players a chance to meet their fans.
"It was very cool," said wide receiver-linebacker Melvin Phillips. "When we first got here we weren't quite sure what to expect, but the city and the people have really embraced us. The city is excited and so are the players about the support we have received so far."
After the festivities fans were invited down onto the field to participate in a variety of contests for a chance to win season tickets.
In four short seasons the af2 has nearly doubled in size from 15 teams to 25. arenafootball2 promotes a fan friendly attitude with autograph sessions on the field for the home team after each game. The af2 and the AFL strictly adhere to a Fans Bill of Rights which is unique to any major sport. The Fans Bill of Rights includes: every fan is entitled to a wholesome environment for guests and family members, free of violence, profane gestures and language or rude and invasive behavior that could in any way interfere with a first-class entertainment experience; every fan demands that we maintain absolute respect for the game of Arena Football and maintain the integrity of the finest of fair competition at all times; every Fan deserves our very best effort on a consistent basis, on every play on the field, every action in the stands, every call to our office, and every involvement in our community.
