Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Jabari Henry homered in his third straight game to give the Sioux Falls Canaries a 5-0 early lead, but a six-run seventh inning from the St. Paul Saints made the difference in an 11-8 Saints win at CHS Field Wednesday.

Henry's home run was his 12th of the year, following up a three-run shot on Monday and a two-run blast on Tuesday.

The Canaries struck first in Wednesday's contest via a two-run home run from Jeff Malm in the second. It was Malm's second home run as a Canary.

Back-to-back singles from Mitch Glasser and Jordan Smith put runners on first and third for the Canaries. Smith took off for second, drawing a throw from Saints catcher Aaron Gretz. That allowed Glasser to come in and score on a steal of home, making it 3-0 Birds.

Dan Motl singled in Smith to cap off a four-run second inning.

Henry went yard in the third inning with a no-doubter to left.

The Saints plated four in the bottom of the third off of Miles Nordgren. Max Murphy, Kyle Barrett and Brady Shoemaker all drove in runs in the frame, which made it 5-4 Canaries.

Neither starter made it out of the fourth inning. Saints righty Ryan Zimmerman allowed five runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings of work.

Birds starter Miles Nordgren allowed four runs on six hits in 4.2 innings, walking one and striking out three.

After a Malm single in the fifth made it 6-4, the Canaries took a 7-4 lead in the sixth on another Henry RBI, this time a single to score Smith.

The Saints added a run in the sixth inning, and exploded in the seventh. Brady Shoemaker and Gretz both hit home runs in the inning. Gretz's first homer of the year was a three-run blast to make it 11-7.

The Birds added a run on a Gretz error in the eighth, but Mitch Glasser grounded out to end the game.
