Late Heroics Not Enough to Overcome Sluggish Start

June 5, 2008 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
Rockford Thunder News Release

A seventh-inning rally, led by doubles from 3B Audrey Rendon and CF Amanda Williams, came up just short in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Glory (4-2) Thursday night.

The Thunder (4-2) struggled getting baserunners in all night, eventually stranding eight. That slump subsided in the bottom of the seventh, when Williams led off with a double to right center and Rendon drove Williams in with a double of her own.

Lindsay Gardner hit Rendon in for her third hit of the night and her seventh of the series so far. Wednesday's hero Sandy Vojik walked quickly to send the go-ahead run to the plate in the form of Shanna Diller. The recent Illinois graduate grounded out softly to winning pitcher Lisa Ferguson to end the game.

Gardner went 3-for-4 to end the night first in the National Pro Fastpitch BA standings with a .529 average. Cassidy Scoggins (2-1) gave up two earned runs over five somewhat shaky innings in her first loss of the season, and the Glory's Lisa Ferguson (1-1) also gave up two earned runs in earning the win.

The two teams clash again Friday at 6:35 pm at Sportscore One. Tickets start at just $5, and can be purchased at the Thunder box office beginning at 4:00.
