Philadelphia Force News Release

Allentown, Pa. For the second straight game, the Philadelphia Force were held in check by a New England Riptide pitcher and came out on the short side of an 8-2 outcome. Riptide pitcher Eileen Canney (2-1) went the distance for the Riptide, allowing two runs on five Force hits.

Stacy Birk (0-1) started in the circle for the Force. She ran into trouble in the second inning. Back-to-back walks to Lisa Iancin and Lisa Modglin put runners on first and second with two outs. Catcher KJ Kelly would drive both runners in with a two-RBI double off of the out-stretched glove of Force right fielder Trena Peel.

The Riptide broke the game open in the fourth inning. A walk to Lyndsey Angus started the frame. One out later, Modglin singled to move Angus up a base. After a base on balls to Jackie Pasquerella loaded the bases, Carrie Embree cleaned them by doubling passed a diving Michelle Tatlock in center field to put New England up by five.

In the fifth inning, the Riptide (3-3) showed some power. Jessica Merchant hit a home run to left-center field off of Amy Harre, who relieved Birk after 4.2 innings. Two outs later, Iancin hit a homer of her own. The Riptide plated one more run that inning to bring their run total to eight.

The Force (4-2) did not go down quietly though. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Chelsea Spencer singled through the left side. Savannah Long was hit by a pitch with one out. Jenna Hall then drove in Spencer to break Canney's shutout bid to the delight of the 250 fans in attendance. Emily Friedman chased home Long with a sacrifice fly to make the final score, 8-2 Riptide.

Game three of the series is set for Friday night at 7:05 p.m. at ECTB Stadium. The first 200 kids at Friday's game receive a free Majestic t-shirt. This game is slated to be on TV2.

On Saturday, the game will be taped to be aired by Fox Sports Net. So come out to the ballpark, and get a chance to be seen on national TV.
