Late Drought Proves Costly

(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats had it going at different times throughout the game, leading multiple times by 7-9 points, but a drought in the fourth quarter proved costly and the visiting Island Storm left with a 100-96 win. The Mill Rats led by 5 at the break, and by 9 with 7:54 left in the third quarter, and by 7 with three minutes left in the third. But they scored only 6 points in the first 5 minutes of the fourth quarter,while the Storm rattled off 16. Saint John cut the deficit to 3 late but failed to convert when it counted, missing three layups in the latter stages of the game.

The final spoiled a great game by new acquisition, Raheem Singleton, who made his first start tonight and scored 21 points to match the output of his backcourt mate, Anthony Anderson. Tyrone Levett added 19. Antonio Ballard scored 25 for the Island.

The Island's bench outscored Saint John's 30-12. They outscored them on second chance points 21-7, and on points off turnovers 21-8. With the loss, the Mill Rats record falls to 9-7 while the Island Storm improves to 9-6.
