WILKES-BARRE, PA - A late comeback was halted by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins as the Binghamton Senators fell 5-4 in front of 5,953 at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday night.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took an early two-goal lead. 1:49 into the game, Dominik Simon took the puck from the right side and fed it to Tom Kostopoulos who fired a one timer by Chris Driedger for a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Kostopoulos' tenth of the year with assists from Simon and Kevin Porter.

Jake Guentzel helped set up Danny Kristo for a 2-0 lead. From below the goal line, Guentzel played a pass to the high slot and Kristo lifted the puck over the glove of Driedger just 2:32 into the game. Krisko's goal was his second on the season with assists credited to Guentzel on the pass along with Derrick Pouliot.

Binghamton responded with a strong finish to the period. Patrick Sieloff sent a shot on net from the point that was stopped by Doug Carr. The rebound was picked up by Jack Rodewald and he slid in his tenth of the year splitting the Penguins' lead in half. Sieloff and Jason Akeson picked up assists and the B-Sens trailed 2-1 after one with shots tied at 13.

Just 12 seconds into the second period, Binghamton pulled even. Max McCormick moved in the offensive zone and sent a nice pass through skates to Nick Paul who wristed the puck just under the cross bar for his fourth of the year to tie the game 2-2.

Phil Varone deflected in his seventh of the year for Binghamton's first and only lead of the night. Ben Harpur took the puck inside the blue line and played a shot through traffic that Varone tipped by Carr for a 3-2 advantage. The goal came just 3:54 into the middle frame with Harpur and Sieloff collecting the helpers.

After giving up three in a row, the Penguins came back to tie the game later in the second period. Tom Sestito cut across the top of the crease and deflected in a Daniel Warsofsky shot from the point at the 14:12 mark with assists from Warsofsky and Guentzel. After forty minutes, the game was even 3-3 with shots favoring the Penguins 28-24.

In the final period, Kristo scored his second of the night and third of the year for a 4-3 lead. The forward slipped out from behind the net and sent a shot on the ice through a mess of skates that beat Driedger at 9:14 of the final frame with assists from Guentzel and Jean-Sebastien Dea.

Just 40 seconds later, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton made it a 5-3 lead courtesy of Ryan Haggerty's third of the season. Warsofsky skated behind the net and threw the puck at the crease for Haggerty to slip by Driedger. Warsofsky had the first assist on the pass to the net with Sestito collecting the other.

Binghamton came close in the end with a power play and its net empty for a six-on-four advantage. Casey Bailey ripped a shot by Carr for his tenth of the year to pull within a goal with 1:01 left in the game.

After a late rush, the Penguins held on for the 5-4 victory. Driedger stopped 34 in the loss and Carr denied 33 for the victory.

The B-Sens are back home next Friday against Bridgeport and Saturday against Albany.
