This past week the United States Football League kicked-off its inaugural season, the XFL revealed its eight head coaches, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers won its fourth NBA G League championship, and the Atlanta Dream selected Kentucky guard Rhyne Howard with the first pick in the WNBA Draft. Highlights this week are from the United States Football League, XFL, Canadian Football Leagues, Fan Controlled Football, NBA G League, Women's National Basketball Association, National Lacrosse League, Premier Lacrosse League, American Hockey League, North American Hockey League, Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Major League Soccer, National Women's Soccer League, United Soccer League Championship and Major League Rugby.

The XFL is excited to announce that it has selected eight highly qualified and well-respected head coaches for its 2023 season. The head coaches include leaders across collegiate and professional football, including Reggie Barlow, Anthony Becht, Terrell Buckley, Jim Haslett, Wade Phillips, Bob Stoops, Hines Ward and Rod Woodson. This group not only shares the XFL's passion for sport and innovation, but brings the football pedigree, leadership experience and visionary outlook needed to play an active role in the building of the league and development of the players.
XFL owners Dany Garcia and Dwayne Johnson spoke to Matt Barrie about the eight new head coaches and their vision for the league.
The XFL announced that Dean Blandino has rejoined the XFL as Vice President of Officiating and Playing Rules Innovation. In this role, Blandino will oversee officiating operations and develop innovative playing rules to achieve the league's goal of producing dynamic gameplay and a highly engaging and entertaining fan experience.
"Dean is a true leader in the industry and has a passion for advancing and enhancing the game of football. His experience and creativity is unmatched, and we firmly believe that he will elevate our league to a new level," said Dany Garcia, Co-Owner and Chairwoman of the XFL. "Together, with our ownership group and leadership team, we are building something remarkable. The momentum continues to accelerate and we're just getting started."

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers clinched the team's fourth NBA G League Championship title in franchise history after defeating the Delaware Blue Coats 134-114 in game two of the G League Championship Finals last night in Wilmington, Del.

The NBA G League announced that Long Island Nets guard Craig Randall II was named the 2021-22 Kia NBA G League Most Improved Player. In 27 regular season games with Long Island this season (all starts), Randall II posted averages of 26.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 40.8 minutes per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from 3-point range and 78.percent from the free-throw line.
Women's National Basketball Association
Two-time SEC Player of the Year Rhyne Howard of Kentucky was selected by the Atlanta Dream with the first overall pick of WNBA Draft 2022. Howard, a three-time AP All-America First Team selection, averaged 20.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists as a senior. In each of the past three seasons, she was a finalist for the Dawn Staley Award as the nation's top guard and the Cheryl Miller Award as the best small forward.

It is with great sadness that the QMJHL was informed of the passing of one of the greatest players in its history, the legendary Michel "Mike" Bossy. The one who terrorized so many opposing goaltenders on the ice was also able to charm fans off of it, thanks to both his positive energy and his tremendous generosity. To say that Mike Bossy was an outstanding player for the QMJHL is far from enough to evaluate the true impact he had on the league while he suited up for the Laval National between 1973-1977.As part of the League's 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2019, Bossy was named as the sixth greatest QMJHL player of all-time.
