This past week the Canadian Football League canceled its 2020 season; the Portland Timbers won The Major League Soccer is Back Tournament; Albany, New York, was awarded a National Arena League franchise; National Women's Soccer League team Racing Louisville FC named Christy Holly its first head coach; and the St. Louis MLS expansion team announced it will be known as St. Louis City SC. Highlights from this week are from the Canadian Football League, Major League Soccer, National Women's Soccer League, United Soccer League One, Premier Lacrosse League, Major League Lacrosse, National Lacrosse League, NBA G League and International League.
Canadian Football League
The Canadian Football League (CFL) is shifting its focus to 2021 and beyond after deciding to not play a shortened season this Fall. "Our league governors decided today it is in the best long-term interests of the CFL to concentrate on the future," said Commissioner Randy Ambrosie. "We are absolutely committed to the future of our league and pursuing our vision of a bigger, stronger, more global CFL."

National Arena League
The National Arena League is proud to announce their new partnership and expansion into Albany, New York. The Albany arena team, under the ownership of Ron Tridico and Nate Starling, are joining the NAL and fielding a team starting in the 2021 season. Albany has signed a three-year agreement and will play in the Times Union Center.
Indoor Football League
The Spokane Shock are pleased to announce the return of 2-time BCS National Champion, 2-time SEC and 2011 Capitol One Bowl champion Blake Sims to the 2021 roster. Post-collegiately, Sims signed with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts, and spent time in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Major League Soccer
The Portland Timbers claimed the MLS is Back Tournament title with a 2-1 win against Orlando City SC at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Larrys Mabiala opened the scoring in the first half, tallying his first goal of the tournament, while Dario Zuparic notched the game-winner, his first career goal with the Timbers, in the 66th minute to secure the tournament championship.

The St. Louis MLS expansion team revealed its official name, crest and colors during a live-streamed event featuring the team's supporters and ownership group. The team will be known as St. Louis City SC. Selected from over 6,000 fan submissions, the name is rooted in the city's rich soccer tradition as America's First Soccer Capital. The name celebrates the area's diverse, iconic neighborhoods and proud heritage while capturing the region's recent growth and cultural renaissance. Four primary colors will identify the team: "City Red", "River Blue", "Energy Yellow", "Arch Steel Gray".
Carolyn Kindle Betz, who heads the local ownership group MLS4TheLou, has announced the name and logo for the new Major League Soccer team in St. Louis. The team is named "Saint Louis City SC" and the color pink will be featured in their logo.
Major League Soccer announced that the league's three Canadian clubs will continue the 2020 regular season in their respective home markets beginning Aug. 18. The Montreal Impact, Toronto FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC will play matches against each other during the first phase of the revised regular season schedule. Each Canadian team will play the other two Canadian teams three times for a total of six games during phase one of the MLS schedule.
National Women's Soccer League
Racing Louisville FC, which begins National Women's Soccer League play in 2021, has appointed Christy Holly as its head coach, the club announced. Holly brings prior NWSL coaching experience to his role, and the native Northern Irishman more recently had a hand in helping the United States win the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup as an opposition analyst for U.S. Soccer. Prior to working with U.S. Soccer, Holly rose from assistant to head coach for Sky Blue FC, the NWSL franchise in Harrison, N.J.
Racing Louisville FC, the National Women's Soccer League team set to start play in 2021, named Christy Holly the franchise's first head coach
OL Reign announced that it has acquired midfielder Rose Lavelle in a trade with the Washington Spirit. In exchange, Washington will receive OL Reign's natural first round draft pick in the 2022 NWSL College Draft, $100,000 in allocation money, and additional allocation money conditioned upon Lavelle's future playing status in the NWSL.

Premier Lacrosse League
The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced year-over-year viewership growth for the PLL Championship Game on NBC. The 2020 PLL Championship Game was played on Sunday, August 9th on NBC at 12:30PM ET in Herriman, Utah and featured Chaos LC taking on Whipsnakes LC. The PLL Championship Game brought in a Total Audience Delivery (TAD) of 340,000 viewers on NBC, outperforming the 2019 Championship Game (276,000 viewers) by an impressive 23%.

National Lacrosse League

NBA G League
The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, have finalized an agreement for Nathan Peavy to become the team's new head coach. Peavy, a three-year assistant coach of the Stars, becomes the Stars' third head coach since the team relocated to Salt Lake City in 2016.
Utah Jazz Head Coach Quin Snyder on Nathan Peavy: "It's been great for our staff to be integrated with the Stars and their staff. I know our whole group is really excited and happy for him that he's going to continue with us in that capacity."
