This past week the XFL unveiled the rules it will use this season, the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes announced a new ownership group, and Inter Miami CF selected Clemson forward Robbie Robinson from Clemson with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Highlights from this week are from the XFL, Canadian Football League, NBA G League, American Hockey League, Western Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, National Women ‚¬â„¢s Hockey League, National Lacrosse League and Major League Soccer.

XFL Rules Revealed: How the league will pump excitement into the sport

The Dallas Renegades have announced quarterback Landry Jones sustained a left knee injury during practice at the team's training camp in Houston. Jones will continue to be evaluated by the Renegades' medical staff. He will be sidelined 4 to 6 weeks.

The Montreal Alouettes have new owners. The Canadian Football League (CFL) club has been purchased by S and S Sportsco, a corporate entity owned by Sid Spiegel and Gary Stern - entrepreneurs with a track record of hard work and success, as well as, a deep passion for Canadian football.

Women's National Basketball Association

The New York Liberty today announced Walt Hopkins as the 8th head coach in the franchise's history. Hopkins joins the Liberty after serving as assistant coach for the Minnesota Lynx since 2017. Prior to joining the Lynx staff, Hopkins served as Academic Coach at the University of California, Berkeley (2014-2016).

HOCKEY

American Hockey League

The Binghamton Devils came back from a 3-0 deficit to secure a 6-5 shootout win against the Syracuse Crunch.

ECHL

The ECHL announced the rosters for the 2020 Warrior/ECHL All-Star Classic presented by Toyota, to be hosted by the Wichita Thunder on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. CT at INTRUST Bank Arena. The game will air LIVE exclusively on NHL Network.

Western Hockey League

North American Hockey League

The Odessa Jackalopes, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced that Todd Watson has stepped down as Jackalopes head coach and general manager. Adam Phillips has been named interim head coach of the Jackalopes, effective immediately, and will guide the Jackalopes from behind the bench.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League

The Saint John Sea Dogs played their 1000th regular season game in franchise history.

National Women's Hockey League

The rosters for the teams captained by Jillian Dempsey and Madison Packer at the 2020 NWHL All-Star Weekend in Boston were unveiled. The game will be held at Warrior Ice Arena, the state-of-the-art home venue of the Boston Pride. The 2020 NWHL All-Star Game - two 25-minute periods of exhilarating 4-on-4 play - is on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2:30 p.m.

LACROSSE

National Lacrosse League

The New England Black Wolves announced that General Manager Rich Lisk will depart the organization on Jan. 31, 2020. Head Coach Glenn Clark will take on a dual role, adding General Manager duties and Assistant Coach Clem D'Orzaio will also become Assistant General Manager.

Premier Lacrosse League

The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced that the league will open the 2020 regular season at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA. The PLL season will begin for the second consecutive year at Gillette Stadium with a primetime matchup under the lights on Friday, May 29th and will be followed by two games on Saturday, May 30th.

Major League Soccer

Inter Miami CF came into the MLS SuperDraft holding two of the first three selections. They used the No. 1 overall pick to select Generation adidas forward Robbie Robinson of Clemson Univ., Inter Miami CF owner David Beckham calling his new charge via Skype to inform him.

David Beckham's Inter Miami select Robbie Robinson (Clemson) as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. Nashville SC then storm Jack Maher's (Indiana) house to announce him as the second pick overall in the draft.

National Women's Soccer League

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) announced that Amanda Duffy will step down as league President on February 15, 2020. Duffy joined the NWSL in 2017 as Managing Director of Operations and became Managing Director in 2018. She was named President of the NWSL in January 2019. Duffy will remain in the NWSL as the Executive Vice President of Orlando Pride.

United Soccer League Championship

The 2020 national broadcast schedule for the USL Championship across ESPN networks was released featuring 20-plus games on ESPN2, ESPNews and ESPN Deportes in the league's 10th anniversary season. Coverage runs from March through November and will include 19 regular season games and the 2020 USL Championship Final on ESPN linear television networks.

Memphis 901 FC has named Minority Owner and U.S. soccer legend Tim Howard as sporting director, Principal Owner Peter Freund and President Craig Unger announced. Howard will join the front office full-time and direct Memphis 901 FC in selecting players, developing club and technical staff philosophy and setting the benchmark for soccer operations.

BASEBALL

International League

Toby Gardenhire has been named the 45th manager in Rochester Red Wings history. Gardenhire, 37, will be in his third season as a manager, serving the same role the past two seasons with Single-A Ft. Myers (2019) and Single-A Cedar Rapids (2018).

Southern League

The Rocket City Trash Pandas announced that Jay Bell, a veteran of 18 Major League seasons, has been named the team's first manager by the Los Angeles Angels. Bell, who was a two-time All-Star and played for five Major League teams, was the manager for the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders, the New York Yankees Triple-A affiliate in 2019, where his team won the International League Northern Division a 76-65 record.

Carolina League

The Kansas City Royals announced on that former Major League catcher Chris Widger will manage the Wilmington Blue Rocks in 2020. Widger becomes the franchise's 17th manager, replacing Scott Thorman, who captained Wilmington to its first Carolina League crown in two decades last season.

OTHER SPORTS

World TeamTennis

The Vegas Rollers recently announced that 41-year-old Mike and Bob Bryan have been contracted to play the entire 2020 World TeamTennis season, which runs from July 12 to Aug. 1. In addition, Las Vegas resident and Davis Cup player Sam Querrey will also play the full season for the Rollers.
