Laredo Bucks News Release


LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Bucks opened the 2003-04 CHL regular season with a 5-2 win over the Corpus Christi Rayz this past Saturday night at Memorial Coliseum. The Bucks home opener is set for this Friday night against San Angelo at the Laredo Entertainment Center. NEXT UP

· The Bucks host the San Angelo Saints this Friday at the LEC. On Saturday night Laredo travels to Corpus Christi, Sunday the Bucks return home to battle the Austin Ice Bats at 4 p.m.

SAN ANGELO

· This is the Bucks first game of the year against San Angelo. Last year the Bucks went 4-2-2 vs. the Saints.

CORPUS CHRISTI

· The Bucks are 1-0-0 vs. Corpus Christi in 2003-04. Last year the Bucks went 10-2-0 vs. the Rayz.

AUSTIN

· This is the first match up of the year against Austin. Last year the Bucks went 3-7-0 vs. the Ice Bats.

SPECIAL EVENTS

· The Cadillac Bar & Turf Club will stay open late after the Bucks game this Friday. Present your Bucks game ticket to receive 15% off your dinner and a free drink. Sunday night the same deal applies and select Bucks players will be present. Bucks representative Clara Villarreal will be present with ticket info.

· The Bucks will play at home on Friday, October 31st, against the Austin Ice Bats. Laredo will wear special Halloween themed jerseys which will be auctioned off after the game with the proceeds benefiting TAMIU athletics. A one of a kind autographed goalie mask will also be auctioned off.

SCHEDULE ODDITIES

· The Bucks first three road games are all on Saturday nights at Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi. The Bucks posted a 5-2 win this past Saturday against the Rayz.

RED LIGHT FLASHING

· Last year the Bucks led the CHL with 253 goals in the regular season, an average of four goals per game. The Bucks potted five goals in the 2003-04 season opener last Saturday in Corpus Christi.

BAD BOYS

· The Bucks led the CHL last season with 111 major penalties.

VERSATILE PLAYER

· In the Bucks season opener last Saturday night Serge Dube played forward. Dube is listed on the Bucks roster as a defenseman, but showed his versatility by moving up to a forward spot. Dube had a goal and an assist in the Bucks 5-2 win over the Rayz.

HOME SWEET HOME

· Last year the Bucks posted the best home record in the league going 26-4-2 record at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks play five of their first eight games at the LEC.

HOME SWEET HOME PART DEUX

· The Bucks won their final seven games of the year at the LEC, so they carry a home winning streak into the 2003-04 CHL season. The Bucks last loss at home in the regular season was on February 11th by the score of 3-2 versus Austin. The Bucks franchise record is nine straight home wins.

GETTING A JUMP

· The Bucks scored the first goal in all three of their preseason games. In their 5-2 win over Corpus Christi last Saturday night in the 2003-04 CHL regular season opener Laredo again scored the first goal. Last year the Bucks were 28-4-2 when scoring the first goal.

BUCKS 2003-04 FIRSTS

· Defenseman J.F. David scored the Bucks first goal of the season at 4:03 of the first period this past Saturday night at Corpus Christi.

· Forward Chris Grenville had the first Bucks penalty, holding, of the season at 4:37 of the first period this past Saturday night at Corpus Christi.

· Dion Hyman had the Bucks first fighting major of the season at 9:01 of the first period this past Saturday night at Corpus Christi.

FORMER BUCKS

· Former Bucks forwards Eric Schneider and Dave Gove are currently with the Utah Grizzlies of the American Hockey League. Schneider has recorded two assist in four games while Gove has not recorded a point in five games played. Former Bucks defenseman Michel Periard is tied for the team lead in points with two goals and three assists in five games with the San Antonio Rampage in the AHL.

· 10/18/03 – SATURDAY – The Bucks began the 2003-04 CHL regular season with a solid 5-2 win over the Corpus Christi Rayz at Memorial Coliseum. Goalie Marco Emond stopped 30 of 32 Rayz shots for the win. Chris Grenville, Patrik Nilson, Serge Dube, J.F. David and Steve Weidlich all scored goals. FINAL SCORE LAREDO 5, CORPUS CHRISTI 2.
