Langley Rivermen Earn Division Title

February 22, 2014 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Vancouver Stealth News Release

TOWNSHIP OF LANGLEY - The Langley Rivermen have clinched the BCHL's Mainland division with an 8-5 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs.

Both Evan Anderson and Matt Ustaski scored their first career BCHL hat tricks while five Rivermen players had multi-point nights in Langley's third straight win and eighth in a row over Chilliwack.

The Chiefs struck first just 6:06 into the first period when Jaret Babych snuck the puck nearside past Lyndon Stanwood. Five minutes later, Anderson scored his first of the night from Kevan Kilistoff to tie the game at one. Then Ustaski scored twice in three minutes to put the Rivermen up 3-1 heading into the second.

Jordan Kawaguchi drove hard to the net and popped home his sixth to pull the Chiefs within one 2:09 into the second before Tyson Witala snapped his 11th top shelf past Spencer Tremblay from a beautiful Darien Craighead feed from behind the goal line to restore the two goal lead.

Kilistoff made it a 5-2 Langley lead with his 10th goal of the season and second point of the night at the 8:20 mark. But just over a minute later Mathieu Tibbet responded before Tanner Cochrane pulled the visitors within one. The Rivermen restored the two goal lead with Anderson's second, unassisted, with four minutes to go in the frame.

The scoring frenzy appeared to have slowed in the final period until Anderson and Ustaski earned their hat trick goals less than a minute apart to seal the Rivermen's 35th victory of the season.

The division title is the first for a Langley BCHL team since the 1999-2000 Hornets as the Rivermen have hit the 77 point mark on the year and remain alone atop the entire league.

The Rivermen close out their home stand Sunday afternoon as the Prince George Spruce Kings make their final visit of the regular season to the LEC in Langley's last home game of the season.
