Rochester Lancers News Release

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers (8-9) fresh off a match in Baltimore the night before, welcomed the Harrisburg Heat (1-15) to the War Memorial at the Blue Cross Arena on Saturday afternoon. The team was inspired by a pair of hat tricks by Mauricio Salles and Yaikel Perez to record a season-high 28 points in a 28-10 win over the Heat. The win sealed a playoff berth for the club, the second in franchise history and first since their inaugural season.

The Lancers, looking for their third win in four starts broke out to a quick lead as a trio of goal scorers helped put Rochester up 6-0. Mauricio Salles opened the scoring with a penalty shot, while Yaikel Perez and Enrique followed up with goals of their own. Chris Hall of Harrisburg tallied with thirty seven seconds left to cut the Rochester lead to 6-2 after fifteen minutes of play.

Harrisburg's Val Teixeira opened the second quarter scoring less than a minute in to pull the Heat to within two. Teixeira's tally seemed to ignite the Lancers however as that was the closest the visitors would get. Rochester responded with three unanswered goals to end the half as Andrew Hoxie, Perez and Brad Vanino all found the net to give the Lancers a 12-4 halftime advantage.

The Lancer run continued to start the third quarter beginning with Perez's third goal of the game. The tally marked his first career hat-trick for the Lancers. Following Perez's tally Jeremy Ortiz joined Salles, each netting a pair of goals to extend the Lancer lead to 18-4 before Kenneth Fultz netted one for the Heat to end the Lancer run. The third quarter ended with Salles notching the hat-trick with two seconds left in the frame giving the Lancers a 20-6 lead.

The fourth quarter began with Harrisburg's Fultz finding the net for the second time making the score 20-8, although only temporarily. Rochester once again responded as Salles netted his fourth of the game followed by Ortiz with his second. Following a Dave Cash goal for Harrisburg, Rochester's Salles found the net for the fifth time while Joey Tavernese netted his lone goal of the game to wrap up a season high output for the Lancers.

Rochester will return to action on Thursday, January 19th when they host the same Harrisburg Heat, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
