The Lancers re-claimed first place in the USHL overall race and in the West Division standings, after a 5-2 victory over East leader Cedar Rapids on Tuesday, March 27th at the Mid-America Center.

Jarmo Jokila, Barry Almeida, and Andrew Conboy each provided a pair of points to support the 31-save goaltending effort of Michal Valent, who posted his eighth win of the season (8-0-1) and fifth straight at home.

Following a scoreless first period of play, Cedar Rapids opened the scoring on a goal from Casey Wellman at the 5:56 mark of the second period. But the Lancers tied the game when Jokila scored his 17th goal of the year, assisted by Conboy and Will O'Neill at 8;55 for a 1-1 tie.

The Lancers scored the next two goals, as newcomer Joe Beaudette notched his first goal in the USHL with a score at 11:01 of the second period, assisted by Justin Johnson for a 2-1 lead, which became 3-1, when Jake Marto received a feed from Jokila for his fifth goal of the year, and the eventual game-winning goal, at 13:54 of the period. Ian Slater's blast from inside the blue line for Cedar Rapids at 18:24 cut the margin to 3-2, Lancers, after two periods of play.

Matt Thurber and Almeida added insurance goals in the third period for the final 5-2 victory margin.

Omaha won the battle of the shot clock 35-33, as the Lancers out shot the RoughRiders 14-5 in the first period, but were out shot 16-10 in the final frame.

Neither team scored on the power play. The Lancers were 0-for-4 and the RoughRiders went 0-for-6.

Richard Bachman (14-13-2) took the loss in net for Cedar Rapids with a 30-save effort.

Next up for the Lancers is a big weekend of home games. On Friday, the Lancers face Des Moines, followed Saturday with their last regular season game against an East Division team, as Green Bay comes into town for their final appearance against the Lancers in the regular season. Both games start at 7:00 PM at the Mid America Center.
