
Lancers Set for Trio of Matches

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers (3-5) will ring in 2014 with an afternoon matinee on Wednesday, January 1 at the War Memorial at the Blue Cross Arena against the Missouri Comets (4-2). Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The match will mark the first time the two sides have met this season. The Lancers will then head to St. Louis for an 8:35 p.m. kickoff against the Ambush (3-5) on Friday, January 3 before taking on the same Missouri Comets on Sunday, January 5th at 4:10 p.m.
The Lancers, winners of two of their last three matches, are coming off a 10-5 win at home over the Pennsylvania Roar on Friday night. That match continued a trend that saw December end as the best month defensively in franchise history for the Lancers. The club was dominant during the last month of play, allowing just 7.2 points per game. It is the second best total in the MISL during that stretch so far. Goalkeeper Gavin McInerney has been stellar in net giving up 8.50 points per game this season in his four starts. That ranks third among all "ÃËkeepers in MISL play.
The Comets enter Wednesday's clash tied with Baltimore at 4-2 and one game out of the league lead. The combination of Vahid Assadpour (32 points) and Leo Gibson (31 points) will test the Lancer defense when Missouri has possession. The two rank second and third in total points respectively this year.
Rochester leads the season series against the Ambush, having won their only meeting of the season back on December 14th in Rochester. Eight different scorers led the way for the Lancers as they came away with a 16-7 home win. Rochester and St. Louis are currently tied for fifth place in the MISL Standings.
