Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) commence their 25th Anniversary season tomorrow evening in a clash with the expansion Dubuque Fighting Saints at the Omaha Civic Auditorium at 7:05 PM. The Lancers, currently the fourth-longest tenured team in the USHL, are coming off a season in which they captured the West Division regular season title and were recognized as Organization of the Year at season's end.
"The Lancers success last season was incredible, both on and off the ice," President/Managing Partner Ben Robert said. "And as great as that season was we're even more excited for our upcoming 25th Anniversary season. The support from our corporate partners and season ticket holders continues to be overwhelming and Coach (Bliss) Littler along with Coach (Mike) Aikens and Coach (Michael) Zucker have assembled an exciting team that should entertain our fans all season long."
Omaha, 42-12-6 a season ago, returns eight Lancers veterans from last season along with a pair of USHL vets in Mitch Hughes (Tri-City Storm) and J.D. Carrabino (Youngstown Phantoms). Among Omaha's eight returning veterans from last season are recently named captain Mike Chiasson along with recently named alternate captains Seth Ambroz and Ryan Daugherty.
Dubuque meanwhile enters its first season back in the USHL after a nine-year hiatus. The Fighting Saints were a fixture of USHL competition beginning in 1980 until the team ceased operations following the 2000-01 season.
Doors for tomorrow night's game will open at 6:00 PM. Free magnet schedules will be given out to the first 1,000 fans in attendance and the Lancers will be holding a special ceremony during the first intermission to honor long-time Lancers head coach Mike Hastings.
Season tickets for the 25th anniversary season of Lancers hockey are currently on sale by contacting the Lancers front office at 344-PUCK (7825). For more information, visit www.lancers.com.
