Lancers Announce 2014-15 Team Awards

(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers today announced the 2014-15 season player awards, presented by Salvatore's Old Fashioned Pizzeria. The awards are given at the conclusion of the regular season to recognize players for their standout performances both on and off the field. They are determined by the coaching staff:

Team MVP: Mauricio Salles - Presented by the Ide Family of Dealerships

As the Team Captain, Salles has scored 39 goals this season. With still one game left to play, his goals total places him in the top five in the league. He's also tallied 13 assists on the year, which gives him a total of 52 total points so far, putting him in the top ten in the league's scoring leaders. He was also named to the league's team of the week twice this year.

Offensive Player of the Year: Joey Tavernese - Presented by Blue Rock Energy

Tavernese looks to finish second in team scoring behind Salles, while having the best season of his career. His 22 goals and 13 assists reserved him a place in the league's top 25 in scoring with a total of 35 points. He was also named to the league's prestigious Team of the Week list this season.

Defensive Player of the Year: Jake Schindler - Presented by Dunkin Donuts

In his fourth season, Rochester native Schindler continues to be the anchor in the back for the Lancers. His consistency and work ethic propelled him to the top of the league as a defender. Playing 17 games so far this season, Schindler has six assists, 14 blocks and an MASL Team of the Week honor.

Community Service Award: Elliot Fauske - Presented by Bernie Iacovangelo and Faber Homes

This award is given to the player that best exemplifies character and dedication to the community. Fauske led the team in local appearances and charitable events and wins this award for the third year in a row.

Rookie of the Year: Brad Vanino - Presented by Palmer's

The defender from Reading, PA joined the Lancers for his first season with the team this year. He added toughness and hard work to the Lancers roster. He heads into the team's last game of the season with three goals, nine assists, and 12 total points.

The Lancers head into this weekend for their final regular season game of the year. They play top seed Baltimore at the War Memorial on Sunday, March 1 at 4pm. The team will pay tribute to all military as they wear custom camo jerseys that will be auctioned after the game to benefit Children of Fallen Soldiers. The first 1,000 fans will receive a team photo courtesy of Get it Straight Orthodontics! It's also the last chance to win a car, courtesy of Ide Family of Dealerships.
