Lakers Sign Chenowith

GREENVILLE, S.C. (August 21, 2003) -- The Los Angeles Lakers have signed former National Basketball Development League center Eric Chenowith, making him the second NBDL player to sign with the Lakers this summer. North Charleston guard Ime Udoka signed with Los Angeles last week.

Chenowith also played with the Lakers summer league team where he averaged 8.1 points and 4.7 rebounds in seven games.

A second-round draft choice (43rd overall) by the New York Knicks in the 2001 NBA draft, Chenowith spent the last two seasons playing in the NBDL. Drafted by the Greenville Groove in the first round (sixth overall) of the 2001 NBDL Supplemental Draft, the 7-1 University of Kansas product, averaged 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in 24 games before being traded to the Huntsville Flight.

Chenowith most recently was a member of the Roanoke Dazzle where he competed in two playoff games scoring 15 points and collecting six rebounds in 39 minutes played.

Chenowith, who played all four years at Kansas, averaged 9.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in 139 career games.
