Lady Eagles Shutout Bradenton 4-0

(Charlotte, NC) - The Charlotte Lady Eagles (5-2-0, 15pts) hosted the Bradenton Athletics (0-3-2, 2pts) tonight in the first of a two game homestand. Charlotte extended their win streak to three with a 4-0 victory. Darcel Mollon led the way with two goals.

Charlotte dominated the first half of play and got the first goal of the match early. In the fifth minute of play Tina Murphy put the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard. Ashley Swinehart set up the goal with a flip-throw deep in the Bradenton end. Swinehart's throw went into the middle about 12 yards out from goal. Murphy controlled it and

shot a volley on goal. Murphy's shot grazed a Bradenton player and slipped inside the left post past the dive of Shannon Aitken.

Lulu Quigley had Charlotte's next scoring chance in the ninth minute. Quigley carried the ball up the middle and took a hard shot from about 24 yards out. Aitken was forced to make a tough save, touching it over the cross bar.

The Lady Eagles took a two goal lead fifteen minutes into the first half on a goal by veteran forward Christy Rife. Ashley Swinehart collected her second assist of the match, driving down the right side. Swinehart passed to Rife who took a quick touch in the middle and fired a shot inside the left post.

Darcel Mollon wrapped up the first half scoring for Charlotte, with two goals two minutes apart. In the 22nd minute Mollon scored her first goal, beating goalkeeper Shannon Aitken to a loose ball. Mollon touch the ball around the keeper and scored with a hard angle shot inside the far post. Lindsey Ozimek set up Darcel's second goal. Ozimek dribble to the top right of the Bradenton 18 yard box and made a nice pass to the top of the six yard box where Mollon touched it into the net.

The first half ended with the Lady Eagles commanding 4-0 lead. Charlotte out-shot Bradenton 10-5 in the half.

The Bradenton Athletics picked up their effort a bit to open the second half, but Charlotte maintained the better of the play. The Lady Eagles, with a 4-0 lead played a more conservative half, holding onto the lead. The Lady Eagles finished with a 4-0 win and extended their win streak to three.
