Milwaukee Mustangs News Release
Fifty yards, bright lights and an adrenaline rush that's second to none. For some players on the Milwaukee Iron, experiencing the excitement of arena football gameday is a dream come true. For Brad LaCombe, the newest member of the Milwaukee Iron ownership group, it's simply a nostalgic homecoming.
LaCombe, a businessman from Plymouth, Minn., was a fullback for the Milwaukee Mustangs during its eight seasons, 1994-2001, in the Arena Football League. LaCombe, helped lead the Mustangs to 46 wins, four second-place finishes in the AC Central Division, and four playoff appearances. LaCombe also ranks 11th in the AFL single-season history book after rushing 291 yards in 1996.
As part owner of the Iron, LaCombe will relive the days when he played in the Bradley Center as a Mustang, and become the first person in football history to ever have played in the same arena of the team that he now owns. He will also be hooking back up with former teammate Gary Compton, who is now the Head Coach and Director of Football Operations for the Iron.
"I'm looking forward to returning to the Bradley Center and arena football," said LaCombe. "The Iron has skillful, athletic, and talented players that have the potential to be tough contenders in the league right away. I'm excited about bringing football back to Milwaukee where the greatest football fans on the planet come to enjoy their favorite sport and think the Iron have the ingredients of being a successful franchise."
LaCombe and the Iron will kick off its inaugural season with a preseason matchup against the New Zealand Overstayers on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 7:05 p.m. at the Bradley Center. Individual tickets for the event go on sale Monday, February 16. The game is included as part of the Milwaukee Iron season ticket package, available for purchase right now.
The New Zealand team is part of a weeklong fan event in conjunction with Downtown businesses, hotels and tourism agencies. A variety of events is planned for the week leading up to the game.
The Milwaukee Iron, an af2 franchise opens regular-season play at the Bradley Center on Friday, March 27, 2009 against the Iowa Barnstormers. For more information visit www.mkeiron.com.
