Aiken Foxhounds News Release
AIKEN, S.C. - The Aiken Foxhounds (39-46, 17-23) hit two home runs, but left 11 runners on base and fell to the Bradenton Juice (46-38, 22-18) 7-5 Friday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The series was originally scheduled to take place in Bradenton, Fla. but was moved to Aiken due to scheduling conflicts, thus the Foxhounds were the visitors on the scoreboard.
Just like in Thursday's series opener, the Foxhounds used a two-run home run in the first to take an early lead. Evandy DeLeon followed a two-out single by Kelly Hunt with a towering shot to left field. For DeLeon, it was his 13th home run in just 30 games this season.
Bradenton doubled that output in the bottom of the second against Aiken starter Chris Delaney. The Juice got five hits in the frame, including RBI singles from Drew York and Julius Thames and an RBI double off Brendan O'Donnell's bat.
The Juice added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth. After Delaney walked two, Thames got his third hit of the night with a two-run double to the left-center field gap for a 6-2 lead.
Bradley Key became the fifth Foxhounds player to reach 10 home runs this season when he drilled a solo shot in the top of the fifth.
Brian Gartley (10-2), the South Coast League's leader in earned run average entering the night, left the game after six innings. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out five.
Trailing 7-4 entering the top of the ninth, Aiken loaded the bases with no outs against Bradenton's Wayne Hedden. One run scored on pinch-hitter Jesse Krause's double play before Tony Harper grounded out to end the game.
Delaney (0-2) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits in four innings. The Hounds bullpen allowed just one run on four hits in four innings.
DeLeon led the Hounds with three hits in five at-bats, including two doubles and the home run. Kelly Hunt went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, and Dustin Richardson added two doubles as Aiken lost despite outhitting Bradenton 12-11.
Aiken will play their last game of the season at Hernandez Stadium when they conclude their three-game series with Bradenton on Saturday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM.
