LA Galaxy and Pachuca to Face Off in First-Ever SuperLiga Final Next Wednesday, Aug. 29

NEW YORK (Thursday, August 23, 2007) - Only two teams - LA Galaxy (MLS) and Pachuca (Mexico) -remain in the battle for regional soccer supremacy and an unprecedented $1 million prize in this year's inaugural SuperLiga, the tournament between four clubs from Major League Soccer and four from Mexico's Primera Division.

The million-dollar title match will be played on Wednesday, August 29 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., at 8:00 pm PT (TV: TeleFutura, SuperLiga2007.com). In partnership with California State, University, Dominiguez Hills (CSUDH), capacity will be capped at 12,500 to limit the traffic and parking impact on students in their first week of fall classes at CSUDH.

SuperLiga Final Preview Notes

- The SuperLiga final will pit two-time MLS Cup champion LA Galaxy against CF Pachuca, the current champion of the Mexican first division, Copa Sudamericana and CONCACAF Champions' Cup.

- Galaxy and Pachuca faced off in the SuperLiga group phase at The Home Depot Center, when the Galaxy defeated Pachuca 2-1.

- Pachuca did not win any of its SuperLiga games against MLS teams. They lost 2-1 to the Galaxy and tied 1-1 against both FC Dallas and Houston Dynamo.

- Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy) has the most goals scored (4) and assists (4) in the inaugural edition of SuperLiga.

- David Beckham scored his first goal with the Los Angeles Galaxy from a free kick in the SuperLiga semifinal, Aug. 15 vs. D.C. United.

- It's the second championship game this summer featuring a U.S. team taking on a Mexican team, after the CONCACAF Gold Cup final played on June 24 in Chicago, when the U.S. national team beat Mexico 2-1. Landon Donovan is the only player who will have played in both games.

- It's the fourth championship game in a club tournament featuring teams from the U.S. and Mexico. The Galaxy took part in the first, losing to Cruz Azul 5-3 in the 1997 CONCACAF Champions' Cup final. The following year, D.C. United defeated Toluca in the Champions' Cup final 1-0, then in 2001, United lost 2-0 to Club América in the final of the first and only CONCACAF Giants Cup.

- The only time the LA Galaxy have won an international competition was in 2000, when they beat CD Olimpia of Honduras 3-2 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final. Pachuca has won the CONCACAF Champions Cup on two occasions; the 2002 victory was its first international honor.

- After three matches in the Mexican Apertura, Pachuca has settled into first place, one of only two teams to win each of its first three games.

- The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated D.C. United 2-0 on Aug. 15 and advanced to the inaugural SuperLiga™ final. Pachuca defeated the Houston Dynamo on Aug. 14 on penalty kicks after the teams played to a 2-2 draw.

Eight clubs began SuperLiga™ in late July, competing in a group phase before the four teams advanced to the semifinals.

All media with approved SuperLiga first round credentials will be presented a SuperLiga Final Media Credential during the practices at the HDC on Aug. 28 and on gameday. Media planning to cover the final who have not applied nor have been approved a credential must apply using the online accreditation form at http://sum.iwebreg.com/apply.
