L.A. Riptide defeat Chicago Machine

CARSON, CA (Saturday, June 24, 2006) - The Los Angeles Riptide won their first road game of the season, by defeating the Chicago Machine 14-8. The Machine remained the only team without a win in Major League Lacrosse by falling to the Riptide for the second week in row. The Riptide was led by attackman Michael Watson who scored four goals, three of which came in a row in the first quarter. Goaltender Tillman Johnson notched 25 saves in the victory for Los Angeles.

The Riptide jumped out to a 4-0 first quarter lead and never looked back. After both teams scored three goals a piece in the second quarter to make the score 7-3 in favor of Los Angeles at halftime, the Riptide ripped off five goals and held the Machine to just one in the third quarter. Chicago outscored Los Angeles 3-1 in the final stanza, to make it 14-8 in favor of the Riptide.

Four members of the riptide scored two points a piece, including midfielder Kevin Dougherty (1g, 1a), attackman Brian Nee (1g, 1a), midfielder Steve Vallone (1g, 1 two-pointer), midfielder Sean Lindsay (2g) and attackman Buggs Combs (2g).

In net for Chicago, goalie Nick Murtha made 31 saves. The Machine were led by rookie attackman Sean Morris who scored a hat-trick and added an assist. Attackman Kevin Leveille also added two goals.
