Galaxy Team Notes

DONOVAN JOINS ELITE COMPANY: With his one goal, two assist performance against Chivas USA on Saturday night, Galaxy captain Landon Donovan became the youngest player in MLS history to join the 50-50 club with more than 50 career regular season goals and assists. In 136 career games, Donovan, who was named MLS Player of the Week on Monday, now has 57 goals and 50 assists, making him the 11th player in league history to achieve such a feat. The 25-year old forward now has 25 goals and 21 assists in 49 games since joining the Galaxy prior to the start of the 2005 campaign and is the second player to join the 50-50 club as a member of the Galaxy. Cobi Jones, who scored the goal on which Donovan collected his 50th assist, became the league's third 50-50 man in 2001 and the first to do so with the Galaxy. Jones now has 67 goals and 86 assists and is L.A.'s all-time leader in both categories.

STARTING OFF ON THE RIGHT NOTE: Galaxy midfielder Kevin Harmse made his first start with his new club a memorable one by scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 17th minute of L.A.'s 3-1 win over Chivas USA on Saturday night. With the Galaxy ahead 1-0, Harmse played a quick one-two with Landon Donovan to get free inside the penalty area and slipped a right-footed shot past Chivas USA keeper Brad Guzan at his near post, doubling the Galaxy lead.

In 2006, two Galaxy players scored on their first-ever regular season start for the club with Santino Quaranta scoring against FC Dallas on August 20 and Cornell Glen scoring twice against Chivas USA in his first start with the Galaxy on April 15.

FINISHING THE JOB: On Saturday night, the Galaxy once again showed an ability to score late against their Super Clásico rivals Chivas USA as Cobi Jones put the game away with a 78th minute tally. L.A. has scored a goal in the final 15 minutes in seven of their 10 games against Chivas USA in the regular season or the U.S. Open Cup, and has won all seven of those contests. All totaled, the Galaxy have scored nine times against Chivas from the 75th minute on with Landon Donovan scoring two of those and setting up four more.

COBI UP FOR HONOR: Galaxy midfielder Cobi Jones has been nominated for the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week Award for his 78th minute strike against Chivas USA on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center. With his team holding on to a 2-1 lead late in the game, Jones got on the end of an inch-perfect Landon Donovan cross and slotted a right-footed shot past Brad Guzan to put the game out of reach at 3-1.

Jones last won the Sierra Mist Goal of the Week Award in April 2005 for a goal against Chivas USA in the inaugural edition of the Honda Super Clásico.

ONE MORE OPEN CUP MATCH ON TAP: After defeating the Columbus Crew last week in an Open Cup Play-In Game, the Galaxy will now take on the New York Red Bulls for the right to join seven other MLS teams in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup. L.A. will host New York at The Home Depot Center on Tuesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. Season ticket holders can use their "Bonus Game 3" tickets for this contest and individual tickets for this game are on sale now by calling 877-3GALAXY or by visiting www.lagalaxy.com .

ROBERTS UNDERGOES SURGERY: The Galaxy will be without defender Troy Roberts for the next 2-3 months after he underwent surgery on his right hip last week. Roberts played in three preseason games for the Galaxy this season but has not been in the 18-man squad for any of L.A.'s four games this season. He underwent the procedure to correct a labral tear on Tuesday and is now expected to be unavailable for at least the next two months.

A third-year defender out of Cal, Roberts has appeared in 28 games and made 19 starts since being selected by the Galaxy in the first round of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft.

GALAXY TO TAKE ON PDL SIDE WEDNESDAY NIGHT: The Galaxy will take on the Southern California Seahorses of the PDL in an exhibition game on Wednesday night in La Mirada. This game will kick off at 7 p.m. at Goodman Stadium and tickets are on sale now through the Seahorses. Two weeks ago the Galaxy defeated another PDL side, the Lancaster Rattlers, 3-0 in an exhibition at Antelope Valley College behind a pair of goals from Robbie Findley and one from Nate Jaqua.
