Los Angeles Avengers News Release

LOS ANGELES -- Terrence Stubbs, a wide receiver with experience in both the NFL and NFL Europe, has signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Avengers, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today.

Stubbs (5-foot-11, 195 pounds) will compete for a spot at the wide receiver/defensive back position when training camp opens on Jan. 3.

"I first saw Terrence at a preseason scrimmage between the New York Jets and Giants in Albany," said Hodgkiss, who has guided the Avengers into the playoffs in each of his previous four seasons at the helm. "He's a good player and I really liked him. Later, we were able to get him out here to L.A. for a workout and we were really impressed with his ability as a receiver. Terrence is a guy that is physically built, has good speed and is very fluid in his routes. He also showed that he has the toughness to turn around and play some defense."

Following the 2004 NFL Draft, Stubbs signed a free agent contract with the New York Jets. He played in all four of the team's preseason games, making four receptions for 49 yards and one touchdown, but ended up spending the entire 2004 season on the Jets' practice squad. After that season, Stubbs was allocated to the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe, where he was a teammate of another recent Avenger signee, OL/DL Reggie Rhodes. Stubbs re-signed with the Jets on Jan. 24, and once again played in all four of New York's preseason games this year, but was among the team's final cuts.

Stubbs played in 33 games (16 starts) for Temple University (Philadelphia, Pa.), catching 65 passes for 893 yards and two touchdowns. On Sept. 20, 2003, he caught six passes for 123 yards in a game at Cincinnati to help set a Big East Conference record as three teammates finished with 100 or more receiving yards in a single game. Two games later, a shoulder injury cut short Stubbs' senior season and hampered the Owl offense. With him in the lineup for five games, Temple averaged 286.6 passing yards per game. After his injury, the Owls' passing production dropped to 180.6 yards in the final seven games.

In addition to his contributions on the field at Temple, Stubbs was selected to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for his excellence in the classroom and received the team's "J. Myron Honigman Award" for spirit, dedication and loyalty to the Owl program in 2003.

Born on March 25, 1980, Stubbs attended Oscar Smith High School (Chesapeake, Va.), where he was selected to the All-District and All-City teams as a wide receiver.

The Avengers will kick off their seventh season in the 20-year-old AFL at STAPLES Center on Sunday, Jan. 29, versus the Arizona Rattlers. Nine-game season ticket packages are on sale now. Please call 1-888-AVENGERS for more information or visit the team's official Website at www.laavengers.com.
