Los Angeles Avengers News Release
LOS ANGELES -- Linebackers Brandon Perkins and Jon Apgar have signed free agent contracts with the Los Angeles Avengers, head coach Ed Hodgkiss announced today. Both players inked two-year deals that will keep them in Los Angeles through the 2008 season.
Perkins (6-foot-1, 235 pounds) played in 46 games for the University of Kansas (Lawrence, Kan.). He finished his collegiate career with a total of 20 quarterback sacks, tying him for third-place on Kansas' all-time chart. As a senior in 2005, Perkins set a Jayhawk single-season record with five sacks versus Louisiana Tech. His grandfather, Willis Perkins, was a two-way lineman for the Houston Oilers.
Apgar (6-3, 265) was an outstanding inside linebacker at Western Oregon University (Monmouth, Ore.). As a senior in 2005, he led the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with 119 tackles, including 10.5 for losses. He also finished with a team-high 5.5 quarterback sacks and four fumble recoveries. For his efforts, Apgar was named GNAC's 2005 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection to the All-Conference team.
The Avengers will kick off their eighth season of play in the 21-year-old Arena Football League versus the San Jose SaberCats on Sunday, March 4, at STAPLES Center. The contest, which features the past two Western Division champions (Los Angeles in 2005 and San Jose in 2006), will kick off at 7 p.m.
Avenger season tickets, which include nine games played at STAPLES Center, are on sale now at 1-888-AVENGERS or www.laavengers.com.
