
L.A. Avengers open season with victory over Rattlers

LOS ANGELES -- Brian Mann threw three touchdown passes to help the Los Angeles Avengers beat the Arizona Rattlers 40-31 on Sunday in the opener for both teams.
Mann completed 10 of 27 passes for 193 yards in his first AFL start before a Staples Center crowd of 11,731. He put the Avengers ahead for good with a 42-yard TD pass to Kevin Ingram on the final play of the third quarter.
Sherdrick Bonner completed 13 of 26 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns for the Rattlers in their first game under head coach Gene Nudo.
Arizona was held scoreless in the fourth quarter. The Rattlers turned the ball over on downs on their first possession and Gary Krawl missed a 42-yard field goal attempt on their second.
Los Angeles increased its lead to 40-31 on Remy Hamilton's 42-yard field goal with 3:51 remaining.
Ingram intercepted Bonner's pass on the ensuing possession and the Avengers ran out the final 1:54.
Ingram caught a game-high seven passes for 126 yards and the one touchdown.
Hamilton, the AFL's Kicker of the Year in 2005, made all four of his field goal tries and all four extra points.
