Kurt Beck Named 2027 Prospect of the Week

Published on September 22, 2026 under Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

Throughout the regular season, each week, the QMJHL will highlight one prospect who is eligible for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft

The prospect who stood out the most during the opening weekend of the regular season was Sherbrooke Phoenix defenseman Kurt Beck.

The American kicked off his QMJHL career by recording two assists in each of his team's two wins, in addition to posting a +3 differential.

On Friday night, the Phoenix scored twice in the first period and twice more in the third to skate away with a 4-1 win over the Québec Remparts. Beck first got on the score sheet with an assist on the game's insurance goal, courtesy of Chad Bellemare. He then added a second point by setting up Thomas Rousseau's first goal of the season.

Back in action the following afternoon, the Phoenix kept fans on the edge of their seats until the very last minute before securing a 5-4 win over the Drummondville Voltigeurs. This time, Beck's two assists were crucial to the win. The Arlington, Massachusetts native started the third period by recording an assist on Bellemare's second goal of the season, before setting up Samuel Rochon for the game-winner with just 43 seconds left on the clock.

A 2025 third-round pick by the Phoenix, 56th overall, Beck is off to an excellent start in his first season with the club. Standing 6'3'' and weighing 194 lbs, the d-man who turns 18 on April 2 will continue to attract the attention of NHL scouts if he can keep up this momentum.
