Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets head into week six of 2009-10 on a.700 clip with a 7-3-0-0 record, identical to last season's status after the first 10 games.
This past weekend the Komets took two out of three games and four points in contests that all were decided by 2-1 scores. Friday the Komets clipped the visiting Quad City Mallards before nipping the Dayton Gems in overtime Saturday on Coliseum ice. Sunday the Komets' four-game winning streak was snapped at Muskegon.
Komets/Jacks rematch in Fort Wayne Friday.....this Friday the Muskegon Lumberjacks (8-3-0-1) make their second of six visits for an 8pm faceoff. It will be a chance for the Komets to avenge their 2-1 loss Sunday at Walker Arena. Friday's game will be the third of 11 meetings this season with the series tied 1-1. While Muskegon stopped the Komets' win string at four games they extended their winning streak to five games. The Komets were the last team to beat Muskegon in regulation on Halloween night in Fort Wayne. The Lumberjacks will host Port Huron Wednesday before traveling to Fort Wayne Friday.
Komets on the road to Illinois Saturday and Sunday.....the Komets hit the highway to Illinois for games Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Saturday the PrairieThunder welcome the Komets to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Illinois for a 8:05pm (Fort Wayne time) faceoff. The season series is tied 1-1 after the Komets dropped a 5-4 decision in the last meeting with the Thunder Oct. 30 at Bloomington. Going into this week's action Bloomington leads the IHL with 18 points (8-3-0-2). The Thunder are 3-1-1 in their last five games and are idle this week until Fort Wayne visits Saturday.
Sunday the Komets complete the three-game weekend at Quad City's iWireless Center in Moline, Illinois. The Komets lead the series 2-0-0-0 after clipping the Mallards in Fort Wayne 2-1 Friday night. Quad City (2-6-1-0) finished last week with a 4-3 shootout win Sunday for their first home game of the season, and first win in eight games after winning the season opener. Quad City skates at Port Huron Friday and Muskegon Saturday before returning home to host the Komets at 5:05pm (Fort Wayne time) Sunday.
Haun named IHL Goaltender of the Week.....Tim Haun had the hot hand last week around the "I" scoring a 1.33 goals-against average allowing only four goals in three games and stopping 56 of 60 shots for a.933 save percentage. Haun jumped to the top of the IHL goaltender rankings with an overall goals-against average of 2.14 after six appearances. The Solsgirth, Manitoba native earned the weekly honor twice last season and was the IHL's Goaltender of the Month for December, 2008.
$10,000 richer for being a Komet Fan.....Churubusco resident Jeff Bonar became the first Komet fan to win the $10,000 prize for correctly guessing the score at the end of each period of the Komet home game Friday night. After registering online at www.komets.com, Bonar correctly guessed that the Komets would lead 1-0 at the end of the first period, 2-1 at the end of the second, and 2-1 at the end of the third. By correctly predicting the scores at the end of each period Bonar collected $10,000 courtesy of Fort Wayne area Jeep and Chrysler Dealers in the Score Prediction Contest. Milestones: Konstantin Shafranov (LW) skated his 300th Fort Wayne career game Friday vs Quad City....Colin Chaulk (C) appeared in his 400th Komet career game Sunday at Muskegon.
Streaking Komets: Guy Dupuis (D) has a three-game point-scoring streak (1 goal, 2 assists).....goaltender Tim Haun has started four straight games.
Marathon Fridays.....Friday night's are Marathon Night's at Komet home games. Two fill-ups get fans a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer for Komet Friday night games. Fill Up Cards are available at participating Marathon stations.
Share The Warmth Coat Drive continues Friday.....the Komets, in conjunction with Kroger and Scott's, are asking fans to bring gently used or new kid's coats, sizes six through 14 please, new mittens, hats and scarves to the Komet home game this Friday against the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 8pm. All items will be distributed to children in need in the local area. Komet fans making a donation will get 10 free chuck-a-pucks, compliments of Kroger and Scott's.
