
Komets Continue To Extend Streaks

ROCHESTER, MI--- The Fort Wayne Komets have been on fire as of late, extending their winning streak to an IHL season-high nine straight games. The Komets have also not lost in regulation since March 6th, giving them an impressive 16-game unbeaten streak. The Komets could break the IHL's record for longest undefeated streak in a single season if they win their last three games of the regular season The current record is 18 games set by the Peoria Rivermen back in the 1990-91 season and Orlando Solar Bears who did it in the 1996-97 season.
Fort Wayne has clinched home ice advantage in the first round of the Turner Cup playoffs, with the lowest seed they can finish is second. The Komets magic number to clinch the Huber Trophy is down to three. Any combination of three points won by the Komets or lost by Port Huron will secure the 11th Huber Trophy for the Fort Wayne franchise. Port Huron, who currently sits in second place, skated away with their fourth consecutive win Sunday over Muskegon, also securing home ice advantage in the first round.
In a wild game Friday night in Flint, the Generals had an 11-goal outburst, the most they have scored in one game all season, tying an IHL high set by the Komets back on October 18th. Flint skated away with the 11-9 win over the Lumberjacks. During the contest, the Generals had their fourth hat trick of the season by rookie forward Zach Pearson, but at the same time had their sixth hat trick scored against them when Muskegon forward Chad Woollard also notched in three goals.

Bloomington PrairieThunder - (1-4-0-0) - Rookie Mike Kusy has come on of late. He has four goals and six assists for 10 points in the last 13 games he has played. Rookie Adam Tomkow scored back-to-back goals last week and followed that with an assist the next night to finish with three points for the week. He hadn't scored a goal since January 2nd. Rookie Paul Holder, who was claimed off waivers last week from Flint, has scored at least one point in the four games in has played with the team (1 goal, 3 assists). Veteran Marty Standish snapped a 28-game drought without a goal in the April 3rd game at home against Fort Wayne. He scored a goal and had an assist in each of the last two games for four points. In the previous 28 games, Standish had only nine assists. Injuries have zapped the PrairieThunder. When the team took the ice for Sunday's game against Kalamazoo, it had eight rookies and only four veterans in the lineup.
Flint Generals - (1-2-0-0) - The Generals saw a huge outburst of goals Friday in their 11-9 victory over the Lumberjacks. Rookie Zach Pearson recorded his first professional hat trick of his career, scoring one shorthanded and two even-strength goals. The Generals also notched in an IHL team game-high 31 points Friday. Pearson is also riding an impressive five-game point streak, where he has recorded a total of 13 points in his last five contest. Defenseman Jay Holladay was plus-6 on the night, which ties an individual game high with Port Huron's Ian Turner. Center Greg Bullock continues to plug away in the scoring column for the Generals. With 81 points in 65 games played this season, the veteran center currently ranks fifth in the IHL in scoring. Flint currently leads the IHL in shorthanded goals for, scoring a total of 17 so far this season. However, they also lead the league in shorthanded goals scored against, with 17 against them. When the Generals are ahead after two periods of play, the usually win. Flint has a 10-2-1-3 record when leading after two stanzas.
Fort Wayne Komets - (3-0-0-0) - The Komets hit 100 points for the third straight time and fifth time in six seasons. The Fort Wayne franchise has reached 100 points 14 times in its 57-year history. Streaking Komets: Sean O'Connor has a six-game point streak (5g, 2a). Konstantin Shafranov is riding a three-game point streak (2g, 4a). Goalie Nick Boucher has a nine-game win string, six-game home winning streak, six-game road win streak, and 14-game unbeaten streak (13-0-0-1). Dupuis ties Long for most games: Defenseman Guy Dupuis skated his 866th all-time (regular season and playoffs) Fort Wayne game Saturday. Eddie Long set the record in the 1965-66 season. Dupuis is expected to break the 43-year-old record for most games played as a Komet Wednesday when the Komets host the Bloomington PrairieThunder. The Komets attracted 13,848 fans to the two home games played last week and lead the IHL in attendance with an average of 7,763 fans per game after 36 home games this season, 14 short of Fort Wayne's record of 7,777 set in 2003-04.
Kalamazoo Wings - (2-1-0-0) - The K-Wings are unbeaten on the road in their last four contests. Blair Stayzer is on a four-game point streak. Rick Cleaver leads all rookies in scoring with 59 points, and in goals scored with 26. Joel Martin has not lost in regulation in his last four starts (3-0-1-0). Glenn Detulleo recorded his third shorthanded goal of the season on 04/04, tying him for the team lead in shorthanded goals scored with Lucas Drake. Kalamazoo has surrendered two shorthanded goals in their last three games. Dominic Osman is tied for third in the league in power-play goals scored with 14. In his 12 games with the K-Wings, Osman has seven power-play goals. Jordan Little is one game shy of 200 games played in his career. Trent Daavettila registered his first game-winning goal on 04/04 against Bloomington. The game was also his first multiple goal game.
Muskegon Lumberjacks - (0-4-0-0) - The Lumberjacks present four-game losing streak matches their longest of the current season. The first four-game losing streak was less than four weeks ago. In their last five games, the Lumberjacks have allotted 33 goals against, for a goals against average of 6.60. When the Lumberjacks bowed at Flint Friday night 11-9, they failed to hold five separate leads in the contest. As the highest scoring machine in the IHL, the Lumberjacks are the first team this season to reach 300 goals for, having scored 301 goals for an average of 4.12. Muskegon has connected on 23 more goals than any other team in the league. Muskegon will make pro hockey history in the 49-years of pro hockey at Walker Arena when the Lumberjacks rookie standout Anton Kharin plays alongside his father Sergei Kharin for a few shifts in the game coming up this Friday night when the 'Jacks host the Flint Generals. Sergei Kharin is an all-time great in Muskegon pro hockey, ranking fifth in the franchise's all-time scoring leaders.
Port Huron Icehawks - (4-0-0-0) - The Icehawks scored four power play goals in Sunday's 5-2 win over Muskegon, marking the most power play goals they have scored in a single game this season. The Icehawks are ranked second in the league on the power play overall, converting on 21.5% of opportunities (70-326) and continue to be the league's top power play squad on the road, with a 22.5% conversion rate (38-169). Several Icehawks tallied points in all four games the Icehawks played last week to extend their point streaks. Steve Rymsha is riding a two game goal streak and an eight game point streak (5g, 10a) , Nick Lindberg has assists in his last six games (8a) and points in his last seven contests (4g, 8a) and Kris Vernarsky is on a two game goal streak (3g) and a four game point streak (4g, 2a). Rookie defenseman Kevin O'Connor reached two milestones last week, scoring his first professional goal on Saturday versus Flint and netting his first professional assist on Sunday against Muskegon. The rookie out of Western Michigan University has two points (1g, 1a) and a +5 rating in five games with Port Huron this season.
