IHL Announces Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-Five

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Flint right wing Zach Pearson has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Flint forward Joel Gasper has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Port Huron goaltender Ryan Mior has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 5th, 2009.

Pearson earns Player of the Week for the first time this season and is also the first General to earn the honor. He posted a total of 11 points last week in three games played. The rookie right wing scored five goals, including his first professional hat trick in Flint's 11-9 victory over Muskegon. Pearson had back-to-back five point nights Wednesday and Friday, recording five goals and five assists in those two games. The 25-year-old White Lake, Michigan is currently riding a five-game point streak, where he had registered 13 points (6g, 7a) during that span.

Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center Jon Booras, Fort Wayne left wing P.C. Drouin, Kalamazoo forward Blair Stayzer, Muskegon center Billy Collins and Port Huron left wing Steve Rymsha.

Gasper wrapped up Week 25 dishing out eight assists in three games played. He registered two back-to-back four point nights, with one of his eight assists coming on the Generals power play and another coming shorthanded. Gasper finished the week with a plus-five rating. The 25-year-old native of Crookston, Minnesota has registered eight goals and 17 assists in 50 games since joining Flint earlier this season in a trade.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington forward Bill Bagron, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Kalamazoo forward Trent Daavetilla, Muskegon left wing Anton Kharin and Port Huron defenseman Kevin O'Connor.

Mior finished the week posting a 2-0-0-0 record, playing 120 minutes. He only allowed one goal against in his two games played, giving him a 0.50 goals against average and a 0.980 save percentage. He made a total of 43 saves last week, including turning aside all 19 shots he faced from Bloomington to earn his fourth shutout of the season. The 21-year-old St. John's, Newfoundland native has an 11-2-2-2 record this season, giving him a 1.75 goals against average and a .932 save percentage in 17 games played.

Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jason Wolfe, Flint's Chad Alban, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher and Kalamazoo's Joel Martin.
