Knoxville vanquishes Mississippi Surge in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Francis Drolet netted the deciding goal for the Knoxville Ice Bears in the shootout as Ice Bears prevailed over Mississippi Surge, 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Mississippi Surge's shootout goal was scored by Jordan Peddle. Knoxville's other shootout goal was scored by Jon Higgins. The Ice Bears were paced by Drolet, who had one goal. Drolet scored 11:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Knoxville. Berkley Scott picked up the assist.

Knoxville kept Mississippi Surge's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mathieu Dugas made 36 saves on 38 shots.

The Ice Bears were led by Drolet, who racked up one goal. Knoxville also got a goal from David Segal as well. More assists for Knoxville came via Mark Van Vliet, who had one.

Mississippi Surge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Knoxville power plays. By firing 24 shots on goal, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 19.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi Surge was led by Anthony Battaglia, who scored the team's only goal. Battaglia scored 19:35 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Knoxville. Lucas LaBelle provided the assist.

Bryan Hince recorded 23 saves for Knoxville. The Ice Bears ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Knoxville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Corey Fulton was ejected from the game. Mississippi Surge totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play.
