Mississippi Surge News Release
The Knoxville Ice Bears notched their third consecutive victory over the Mississippi Surge with a 3-1 win in Knoxville Friday night.
Last weekend Knoxville took a pair of overtime decisions from the Surge in Mississippi, and it appeared the two teams might be headed for their third straight overtime game on Friday. But trailing 2-1, the Surge was unable to get the equalizer, before Knoxville registered the insurance goal.
Jay Silvia put the Surge on top with the only goal of the first period. Knoxville countered though with an even strength goal, a shorthanded goal and a power play goal.
Eric Satim scored two second period goals for Knoxville 10 minutes apart with Tyler Fernandez assisting on both of them. The power play goal came off the stick of Emery Olauson at 15:08 of the third period.
The Surge had three players--right wing Mike Tuomi, defenseman Mark Pawlowski, and right wing Andrew Harrison--playing their first games of the season for the team. Tuomi got into a fight with Knoxville's Brad Pawlowski just 1:41 into the first period.
All three signed Friday to fill roster spots created as other players were loaned out to teams in different leagues, as a result of the National Hockey League reaching a tentative agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement.
Saturday the Surge will visit the Fayetteville FireAntz, in the first of two straight games there.
