Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - May 6, 2009 - The Knights couldn't overcome a rough first inning in which the visiting Durham Bulls scored four runs. The Bulls used the runs to lead to an 8-7 victory over the Knights in front of 5,808 fans.
Charlotte start John Van Benschoten allowed four consecutive hits including a two run homer from the Durham's Matt Joyce to help give the Bulls the early 4-0 lead. All wasn't lost for the Knights as they managed to score 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the first.
The Knights picked up an early RBI double from outfielder Josh Kroeger who hit safely in his 7th straight game. Kroeger's first inning double was followed up with back to back RBI singles from outfielder Michael Restovich and Brian Myrow.
The game was later delayed by rain for 50 minutes in the top of the 8th inning. Play resumed as the Knights were able to take advantage of a new Durham pitcher, scoring three runs in the bottom of the 8th off a three run homer from INF Brian Myrow.
After another brief rain delay in the bottom of the 9th inning, the game finally concluded with the Knights leaving the winning run at first base. With the rain delays the game took 4 hours and 31 minutes to play.
The Knights and Bulls conclude their series tomorrow at 7:15 PM. The top pitching prospect in all of baseball, LHP David Price (1-3, 3.92 ERA), is scheduled to start for Durham. The Knights will start LHP Wes Whisler (2-2, 1.95 ERA).
