Knights Assigned FB/LB John Mannino

MACON, Ga. – The Macon Knights announced today the assignment of fullback/linebacker John Mannino. Mannino, who was a defensive lineman at Appalachian State, will convert to a FB/LB with the Knights.

Mannino (6-3, 265, Appalachian State) enters his first year of Arena Football after finishing his collegiate career at Appalachian State in 2002. During the 2002 season he recorded 66 tackles (42 solo), 11 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks. One of his 5.5 sacks came against Marshall's quarterback, Byron Leftwich, forcing him to fumble.

Mannino finished his career at ASU with 148 tackles (102 solo), 20 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, 6 pass breakups, 16 quarterback hurries, 1 forced fumble and 1 recovered fumble. He played in 45 games, starting all 25 games of his junior and senior seasons. Mannino helped the Mountaineers to five straight Division 1-AA playoff appearances from 1998-2002 (Mannino was redshirted during the 1998 season).

In another move this week, the Knights traded backup quarterback, Kenton Evans to the Birmingham Steeldogs for future considerations.

The Macon Knights – 2003 American Conference Champions – will begin their fourth season of play next spring and are looking to make the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.
