Stockton Wolves News Release
With two weeks to marinate on the franchise's first loss, the San Jose Wolves looked aggressive, focused, and cohesive in Saturday's 70-38 dismantling of the Wenatchee Valley Venom.
"It got us back on track," said GM/Head Coach Bennie King. "This is a championship caliber team, we got back on that track, and the game reflected that."
Now, the Wolves will turn their attention to the Ogden Knights for the third and final time this season. San Jose is looking for a season sweep and the opportunity to move back into first place with a Wyoming loss.
The first two meetings went the Wolves' way but weren't without their share of intrigue. While the teams also played their pre-season game against each other at the Cow Palace, the first official meeting started thirty minutes late due to a disagreement between Ogden's ownership and players. The Knight's caught the Wolves off guard, and had a chance to win in the final minutes, but San Jose escaped with a 36-29 win on the road.
The Cow Palace was much more kind to the Wolves the following week, and San Jose showed just how tough of a team they were at home, winning 58-32.
The Wolves have got to the 5-1 mark with a balanced approach, ranking third in the league in total offense and second in scoring defense.
Linebacker/Fullback Marvin "Boogie" Brown has played on both sides of the ball throughout the season, but the return of Fitu Tuua from injury has allowed Brown to refocus the defensive unit that had allowed 104 of the 215 scored upon them in just two weeks.
Brown's return to solely playing defense created multiple turnovers and stymied the league's best running game.
"We got back to allowing Marvin to just be the leader on defense," King said. "When he is able to just be a linebacker fulltime, he's special."
Tickets are still available and can be purchased through ticket master or by calling 1-877-9-WOLVES. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:15 pm with Bay Area football legend Bill Romanowski flipping the coin prior to the game.
